a beach along the Great Ocean Road, Victoria |
Spent a couple of days in Lorne, waking up to this.
actually, this was down the road and around a few bends....
...it was more like this.....
|
view from front deck |
and this.....
|
view from side deck |
except in reality it was sunrise, many hours earlier.
each morning my dawn wake-up came at 6.15 am
with the raucous babble-and-cackle of a tribe of kookaburras,
creating their ear-splitting din,
followed by the screeching cacophany of the Sulphur-Crested Cockatoos.

......so much for the peace and quiet of the Australian bush!
we were adopted (stalked) by a very possessive family of birds
....every time we stepped outside to enjoy the view.....
they would swoop in, eager for a snack!
........on the last night I counted 13.....sitting perched....
...watchful....surrounding us,
.....niggling amongst themselves as to which ones would fly in
and take prime position on our table.
they were cheeky enough to assume they could help themselves
to the food on our plates!
and by the time we left, they were taking food from my hand.
when we retreated inside with our plates,
they'd hover outside, often tapping their beaks on the glass....
lined up, impatient and hopeful,
like kids at the tuck-shop!

they are so personable....with such wacky little characters...
.....and they are so tame.
though I'm not sure who was taming who, and whether it was me or them
who had the upperhand!
.....more tomorrow!
