in Queensland I visited the Tannum Sands Surf Lifesaving Club.

lots of inspiration here...and here...

a pretty nifty van!

Tannum Sands Beach

miles and miles of Tannum

what amazed me was the huge tankers, headed for Gladstone,  dotting the horizon

...I counted 26!

but these little nippers are not Tannum kids...

they're just out of my imagination and they're on their way to Sorrento and

the Manyung Exhibition mid-January.

Xmas part 2

yum...all low calorie of course!

Family, funny hats and food...

repeat, lots and lots of fabulous food.

and a swim to cool off.

aussie xmas

funny how Xmas ham and family can make you feel 1000% better :)

I headed back into the studio to find this monster next-door-but-one.

It's obviously been a noisy past few days whilst I've been away.

methinks I'm about to lose a lot of light

from my back-deck and varnishing place.

three stories on the fence-line will cut out a lot of sky

and I think start a domino-chain with nextdoor

and perhaps even my landlord joining the push to build up and up.

I guess I will just have to wait and see.

but today was very productive and I'm making headway with

my Exhibition paintings.....and I sorted out the legs of this little guy!

Yay! Finally!! moving forward :)

Agnes Water beach, Queensland.....  and 1770.....

Agnes Water Beach, Qld

I'd never leave that verandah

out of sorts

under the weather

below par

feeling awful

sick as a dog
off-form

laid up

out of action

Yep, that's about got it covered I think.

rotten timing for it.

progress on paintings for my Group Exhibition at Sorrento

have ground to a halt....

can't be helped...think I'll head back to bed with my lemon-tea and tissues

and Echinacea and Garlic...

and try again tomorrow :(

Today was a day for gumboots.

as I write, in Melbourne it is 10 degrees....  hail and lashings of rain,

and snow on the mountains.

.....and it's supposed to be summer...well it was two days ago!

trawling through old photos some months back I found this photo.

we were camping on the Murray , a waterskiing trip,

and while the adults were busy unpacking and setting up tents,

this little fellow decided to amuse himself with dads' boots.

caught in the act ....he didn't know whether he was in trouble or not!

this photo was taken so, so long ago , this little chap is probably

a dad himself now.

he inspired two paintings....'The Tumbleweeds'  and 'Wellies and Whitebait'

I wonder what he'd make of my interpretations of his choice of footwear....

he was such an adorable little chap!

lost amongst the letterboxes.....

36degrees today, and it's only the second day of summer!

this is way too hot for my studio, but it means I can catch up with this blog.

anyone who knows me knows that I can get lost 2km from home.

during my recent trip to Queensland,  I left Agnes Water, some 2 hours south

of Gladstone,  to head back to Gladdie to meet up with my son. the plan

was for lunch and a swim at Tannum Sands, then a short drive

to Gladstone in time to pick him up at the Curtis Island ferry .

I left Agnes Water and couldn't believe the ingenuity and variety

of the letterboxes along the way.

I spent 2 hours happily hurtling along the highway, stopping and u-turning

to snap all these wonders of creativity and design.

it was only when the road became decidedly more like a bush track

than a national highway  that I realised I had turned left, not right,

was heading south not north, and the road signs were giving mileage

to Brisbane, not Rockhampton, and I was on my way back to Melbourne!

so I had to abandon my photo-stops....and my hopes for a leisurely lunch

and swim...and flat-foot it in the opposite direction!

my favourite....it loomed out of the bush like something from 'The Jetsons'...
.but simple, no pretensions, and who cares if it's on an angle!

(all photos taken 31 Aug 2013, somewhere below Agnes Water , Qld!)

serendipitously, his ferry-crossing struck major delays, and it all ended happily.

but I'd love to get more letterbox photos....I feel a new series brewing!

ps: my 'pier-people' are coming along nicely.....   :)

Brunswick South Arts Festival

'It's My Turn'
detail
Jo-Ann Hunt©

I've been invited to exhibit at the Brunswick South Arts Festival.

...the festival sounds amazing with live music,

an African drumming workshop, Bollywood performance,

vintage clothing, puppet show and a side-show alley.

the inaugural Art Exhibition opens on Friday 29 November 2013

and the Festival promises to be a fantastic family day.

just my style!  looking forward to it!
