last days of autumn...

Today  I took a walk around the block near my studio

to just absorb the colours.

the autumn leaves are so spectacular and I think these brief interludes

of blue sky may be the last we'll see for a while....

which I guess means good weather  for holing up in my studio...

....I'd better get back there!

autumn lace

Update: to the new owner of 'Out and About'......

thankyou for enjoying my art and

for sharing my paint-spotted journey!

Autumn has definitely arrived and her chilly mornings

and overcast days are great for me as it makes for terrific painting weather.

I've been busy working on paintings for the St Kevins Art Show.

I have exhibited and sold work in this show every year since 2001.....

and blogged about it in 2012 here  and in 2011

.....pop along if you've time over the weekend as it is always a show

with variety and quality.....and a huge favourite of mine.

to the sandbar and back.....

Elwood Beach, Victoria

A couple of months back I began to be intrigued with the shapes

that reflections made on the surface of the water.

This is one of the paintings I completed back then.

as kids, to the sandbar and back was a phrase spoken all summer long....

it was always the perfect challenge, the best destination....

running, swimming, rowing, paddling, wading....

even today, just writing those words makes me feel all happy and summery!

not a bad way to feel on a cold, wet grey day like today!

hmmm....

                           happy rainyday monday......

'out and about'......

'Out and About'
detail
Jo-Ann Hunt©

Every now and then I like to experiment and try something different

with my techniques.

Lately I've been using brush and minimal texture....but in this painting

I really wanted the texture to be thick and obvious over the entire canvas.

The background I painted black..... to emphasize the luscious blues

and skin tones....

but I didn't want that 'outlined'  or 'colour-inside-the-lines' look

....so I made sure there were lots of soft, indistinct edges.

And to apply the paint I used brushes, rags, palette knives and my fingers.

I have a habit of getting home from the studio, and finding that I've been

to the shops and supermarket with a smear  of blue and red paint

on my cheek....or chin....or forehead.... or all three!

Now I try to remember to check in a mirror before I leave the studio

....finger-painting might be quick and tactile but it does have its down-side!

Yep, I'm often 'out and about' and speckled with paint!

fingers are for painting with....I need 20!

........if you spot me and I'm 'spotted'....for goodness sake let me know!!

sky writing .....

sky-writing

We've had the most beautiful weather of late....

....still blue skies, warm, 25 degrees .....and it's May....

.....we should be heading for low temps and the winter woolies

instead of thongs and shorts!

I spotted this in the sky that made a clear blue canvas above Brighton Beach

sky-writing 101

....comments from the 'tradies' shouting skywards as they headed

to their utes.....'ohh no!  oh look!  ....

....ohh...don't do it man!....

ohh no....why would you do something like that?

...oh noooo! ...ohhhh you're just making it hard for the rest of us!

romance 101

whose message in the sky?

....wonder who the lucky girl is?   ....wonder who the loving parents are

to have a son who would go out on such a romantic limb......

....wonder if she said 'yes' !

A Torquay Sunday....

cliffs at Torquay Surf Beach, Victoria

I love Torquay.

I love the beach early in the morning.

Torquay Surf Beach, Victoria

Sunday mornings seem to be 'Dad-mornings'.......

I watched this chap with his children, laden down

with their boards and gear, heading up the steps to the carpark

after a morning in the waves.

....seeing people silhouetted against the sky as they climbed the hill

inspired me to paint "A Torquay Sunday'.....a little artistic licence....

....an imagined family.......this little painting found a new home

at the Canterbury Art Exhibition.....

....but I think I may need to paint this view again......

perhaps on a Saturday..... and a Monday..... a Friday.....

any excuse for a weekend on the Surf Coast is a good excuse!

2013 Canterbury Art Exhibition.....

Update:
a big thankyou to the lovely people who purchased my paintings....I really appreciate that you've chosen my painting to be a part of your life and your home, and also to the very encouraging, heartwarming comments from people. I feel honoured when my artwork makes that connection.....looking forward to seeing you at next year's exhibition.....

The 2013 Canterbury Art Exhibition opens tonight.

They have excelled in the promotion of this event

with two hybrid, luxury Lexus cars, donated by the events sponsor,

Blackburn Lexus, and artistically illustrated by the young students

at Canterbury Primary School, being  driven around Melbourne.

It's gorgeous....I want a car patterned like this!

I have a huge weakness for children's art.....I wrote a thesis on

the Developmental Stages of chidren's art when I was at college.....

and I couldn't believe it when I saw one of these cars parked

at the local shops.

just a few little drawings .....

ride bikes not cars!

More than 580 students have drawn their own environmental

message into a hexagon shape....all in texta-colours....are you cringing!!!

I especially love the beguiling little black birds under the handle,

fly little bird.....

and around the headlights......

Canterbury Art Exhibition 2013

....hope you can get along to see the exhibition, it always showcases

some great contemporary artworks and you can check out their website

to see what I've been up to!   and if you are really lucky you may

catch sight of these mobile works-of-art parked outside!
