...'Children of Summer...no 2

Six down and more to do.They may be small but I can still make a mess!

It's Anzac Day and I've been busy varnishing for some upcoming Art Shows.

My fingers are covered in fine varnish and look like a shedding snake....peeling

it off is like peeling off my fingerprints!

I'm thinking gloves would be a good option!

This is a chunky, heavily textured painting of my favourite subject....

zinced faces brimming with quiet optimism!

As soon as it dries it will be on its way to the Canterbury Art Show.

You can check out the fabulous art on exhibition here.

love this Show!  say hi if you see me there this weekend.....

I'll be the one with the red-raw fingertips!   :)  Jo

....unexpected outcomes....

I know its not considered 'correct these days, but returning

from a life overseas, and without their father for the holidays,

leaving friends and starting over, the Easter Bunny decided to spoil them.

but what happened next was not what I expected.

......these huge eggs put them off chocolate!

both kids have a 'take-it-or-leave-it' approach to chocolate now.

Sure they'll eat it if it's there....but otherwise it's not that relevant.

Small...with quality, now rules!  who would have thought!

sometimes our bad parenting decisions become good ones!

                   Happy Easter!

'Mates' no 2......

For a change of pace , I'm posting a painting from 2011..... a small one.

I sometimes do these just to give me a jolt,

to keep my hand and eye 'in the groove', or to recharge my batteries.

I first wrote about the reasons behind my 'Small Works' series

back in July, 2012.

Painting on a large scale is demanding.....the constant pacing up to the easel,

back to the wall, to the palette, to the canvas, back to the wall.

I walk miles!

There are a lot more brushstrokes in a large painting, and because

I paint intuitively, without much planning or detailed forethought,

there are a million decisions to be made on the go.

Truthfully I find it quite mentally exhausting!

so to vary my routine......and they say 'a change is as good as a holiday'

.....I sometimes 'paint small'

Not always is bigger better!
