I don't often paint kids in wetsuits though that is most definitely

the weapon-of-choice when dealing with the cold southern waters

of our surf beaches.... fresh and frosty straight from the Antarctic!

....we breed them tough down here!  I'm posting it because even though

my subject matter hasn't changed, my technique has.

2010 work in progress

I'm trying something new...soon I will be able to let you see how they  turn out.

That's IF they work out!

                  I'll let you know :)

Summer is sailing weather.

Any weather is sailing weather!

I graduated from dinghies, to catamarans, to trailer-sailers, to cruising yachts

to racing yachts....the big ones! Now I'm more involved with painting canvas

and not hoisting canvas!

............at this age these little Tackers have a life ahead on the water.....

                                              ....they're blessed!!

and 'little Miss' was almost complete here...02 December 2013.

As children we were always playing around, on, under the jetties

at our holiday shack.

a special time was when Dad would start up his home-made motor-boat,

tie the dinghy to the back and tow it, with my brother and I bouncing inside,

to the 'big pier' at Point Henry.  he had built a long 'scooping-basket'

with huge razor-sharp teeth.

...I thought he was a genius! ....

( little girls and their dads!!)

and he would slide it deep

down the pylon, below the tide line

then drag it up filled with

fat, fresh  mussels.At age 7 or 8

 we were roped into scrubbing

and debearding hundreds of mussels,

readying them for cooking, where they'd be thrown into a

big, metal laundry tub on a fire built on the sand in front of the shack.

no garlic, wine or parsley in those days! just a-la-natural with vinegar.

I still adore a feed of mussels.

and this little girl is sort of a Retro Self-Portrait.

she brings back such great memories.

...Sunny Season in Sorrento ...an exhibition

Manyung Gallery, Sorrento

Manyung Gallery, Sorrento

A couple of pics from my Exhibition.

unfortunately I'm still  a tad under the weather  and didn't get down to see it,

so  this is all I have.

I believe one painting is off to Germany, another to Queensland

and one to Tassie.   Fantastic !!

if you've bought one of my paintings, email me a photo of it on your wall...

I always  love to see where they end up!

I've come back to the studio and there's a jack-hammer, and two bull-dozers

and a tip-truck smashing and battering away next door.

so much for a peaceful morning!

"Stepping Up' is on display at Manyung Gallery, Sorrento, until Saturday.

these three nippers have their sights set on what they need to do.

and as for me....I think I may need to step up to the easel, turn up the radio,

load up some paint, and get cracking! and ignore the din!

 This is how I feel!

It's been way too hot for my studio.

Apart from the air temp inside a sunny, bright, large-windowed room

without aircon, the paint would dry on the brush before I could get it to the canvas!

So I've been holed up at home, trying to keep cool and updating my 'office-work' and records.

Thankgoodness the Cool-Change arrived today....

now I can get back to work and  rejoin the land of the living!

I hope we don't see that for another 105 years!!

Hope you found somewhere cool to hideaway!

'Coast and Country'

all dry, wrapped and ready for a new home

Brochures done, paintings wrapped and waiting for the courier.

now that's a happy sight!

'Sunny Season in Sorrento' opens on Saturday 11 Jan 2014

at Manyung Gallery, 113A Ocean Beach Rd, Sorrento, Victoria

but I've noticed one painting may have sold already and it's still in my hall!

'Coast and Country' features trees that were inspired by the pines

at Sorrento and Torquay, and so many other seaside villages

and beauty-spots around our coast.

Many of these beaches are my absolute, all-time favourites....

there's something historical and gentile and 'forever' about these places...

....don't you just love a beach that comes with ready-made shade?

.....almost done....

the perfect spot to varnish

It's been a busy few weeks...few months actually.

many of these paintings were started in October and I've been working,

tweaking, changing, finishing all through Xmas and finally we're on

the home stretch.

varnishing day today!

I was onto no.5 when the bulldozer crew on the demolition site next door

decided to knock down a brick wall and scoop it into the corner.

luckily the paintings were all dry and I was able to move them inside.

not looking forward to losing my privacy and light :(  this area of my studio is

so perfect for this job...I'll be tripping over myself if I have to do it inside.

time will tell  :(

...might have to kick the kids out of home and take over one of their rooms!

now it's on to my brochures , catalogue records, and documentation.

paperwork...on the computer! ...sigh...not my strongpoint!

                                       Jo  :)
