just a quiet Sunday....

I love my studio because it's private.

A cubby-hole of a space....light, bright,

warm, in the thick of the action at a busy intersection....

but it's private. No-one to interrupt me.

Not today.

I've got a lot of work to complete over the next few weeks so I went

to the studio expecting  to get a few hours of quiet painting

on a quiet, grey Sunday.

Wrong!

that's my little studio in cream

Flashing lights, trucks, guys yelling from cherry-pickers

just outside my window.

And the power off.

I think it's because of the high-rise apartment going in down the road.

.... and the triple -story going up next door.... and the one across the road.....

too much power will be needed to surge through lines that were set up

in the 1950's. And symptomatic of too much thoughtless,

ugly development going on in Melbourne .

the side street...much quieter!

It made for an interesting afternoon.

I can't paint with people watching.....especially tradies

in hard-hats yelling ...'Always...Good'

....and I need my coffee.

....and a quiet, empty space that I can zone into. And did I mention ....privacy.

the studio supervisor enjoyed the chaos

I thought the cherry-pickers were going to come through my window.

And all those enormous cranes and heavy boots clomping within

two metres of my easel. And it was cold without the heater. And no coffee!

no escaping to the back room either

nor to the verandah

But I did manage to get a few  more layers of paint on these little guys....

One cherry-picker was bad. Three cherry-pickers was too much!

When they climbed the ladder onto the roof I called it quits!

I'd lasted 2 hours.

 I went home.

I'll try again tomorrow!
